I am currently still working on my Breastfeeding Counselor certification. During my training, for a limited time, I am offering up to 5 hours of combined support free of charge to any woman contacting me looking for breastfeeding support. This could include any of the services listed on my breastfeeding services page.
Reading this, you might be asking yourself, "Why is Criston offering breastfeeding counselor consultation services before she is able to call herself a certified breastfeeding counselor?" and that would be a good question! If you'd like to know my answer to that question, then read on!
UPDATE AS OF JANUARY 12, 2018:
Now that my 'baby' is no longer a baby but a toddler, I am excited to announce that my maternity leave is ending soon! I am planning to start taking on call birth clients again, now in the Saskatoon area, for those due as early as March 2018 (I will not be ready take breastfeeding-counselor-only clients until later in 2018).
UPDATE AS OF OCTOBER 2, 2017:
Approaching this little dude's birthday, I am currently still on maternity leave and unable to accept any new birth doula clients at this time in the Saskatoon area in which we now live (our new home for the time being). I am finally able to resume my breastfeeding counselor studies, however, and anticipate being able to take on breastfeeding clients early in 2018!
2017 has been crazy so far! You'll find out why by reading below what I posted on Facebook on January 1, 2017:
"2017 has arrived! I am looking back on 2016 today, and what do I see? I see the blessings I was given - especially THIS one! This birth doula had her 3rd baby (here with us) and I thought this day was a good one to share him with all of you! He was born October 28th and his name is Gabriel. What a wonderful year it has been!
As I look at 2017, I also have an announcement to make. At the end of January our family is going to be moving away from Southeast Saskatchewan, and as a result, Bundle of Love Birth Services will be moving locations too. Since I am also currently on my own maternity leave it may take a while to operate again in a new location, and we do not yet know where we will end up.
However, you can expect that I will continue to occasionally post on this FB page and eventually update here and on my website when we are back in operation again :) In the new year I also hope to resume and complete my breastfeeding counselor studies and certification process to provide even greater support to families at this time of their lives."
It's almost my turn!
As I'm entering into the home stretch of my own current pregnancy and after my upcoming birth sometime around October, I may be a bit slower to respond to inquiries that come by email, Facebook message, and website contact forms.
However, don't worry - I'm still around! I will still respond as soon as possible to all messages that continue to come in the next few months.
I welcome inquiries any time for due dates after April 2017 for on call birth doula support, and inquiries for services that do not require an on call period (some birth doula services, breastfeeding counseling services, etc.) starting as early as January 2017.
I appreciate your understanding in this time and look forward to continuing to serve Southeast Saskatchewan into the future!
Did you know that if you would like a doula and are not in the financial place to be able to hire one at this time, you have options?
One such option, among others (like payment plans/alternative payment arrangements, gift certificates, etc.) is to apply for assistance from the Doulas of Regina Relief Fund. Fundraising is done through the Doulas of Regina doula collective (that I became a part of this summer) to be able to provide financial assistance to women who would like to have doula support but aren't sure if they can afford it.
I signed on as one of the doulas who is available to provide birth doula support to clients through this relief fund, and I am excited to announce that here on the blog! I will gladly support Southeast Saskatchewan clients approved through the Doulas of Regina Relief Fund process.
CLICK HERE to go the the Doulas of Regina Relief Fund page on their website for more information on how the relief fund works, to view their application form, and for information on how anyone can donate to the relief fund!
I am hosting a FREE information session on BIRTH DOULA SUPPORT at the Weyburn Public Library Branch on Tuesday, August 18 from 7-8:30PM! Come meet your local birth doula informally without making any commitments toward hiring. Feel free to come alone or bring partners, friends, grandmothers-to-be, and any others who might attend your birth or who would like information about doula s and the support they provide. Children are also welcome! Refreshments will be provided for our time together!
Good morning! I was excited to come to the blog this morning for one major reason...and that is that I get to announce that in addition to Estevan and Regina) my service area now extends to births in Moose Jaw and Moosomin, SK!
