About Me
Hello to you! My name is Criston White. I am a certified professional birth doula and breastfeeding counselor in training in the Saskatoon, SK area. I make my home in Warman, a few minutes from the city. I provide doula services for clients birthing in and around Saskatoon (hospital and home birth), and breastfeeding counselor services for the surrounding area as well.
I feel honored to be invited to witness my clients' journeys during pregnancy, birth, postpartum and breastfeeding. I am committed to providing compassionate, knowledgeable, professional, and of course, practical support during this unforgettable and life-changing period.
While my role as a birth doula and breastfeeding counselor has little to do with me, and instead has to do with my clients and their preferences and wishes, I understand that there will be some people who would like a little introduction into why I decided to become involved in this work in the first place! |
One of my biggest passions is for almost anything related to pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and parenthood beyond birth! As a mother myself, and a birth doula (certified through Childbirth International), I have been on a few journeys which are deeply connected when I look back on them.
My journey to becoming a mother is one of those journeys I look back on. I can now say that I understand that the road to parenthood isn't as easy as I once expected it to be. My journey to being the mother to my 3 precious children came with difficulties, challenges, and even great losses. But one thing I have learned is that the journey itself was worth it, as I look back now and see how blessed I am to have my children who have made it into my arms.

My journey to becoming a birth doula is closely connected to my motherhood journey as they have overlapped in many ways. I still remember how I felt after my first child's birth. I went into my pregnancy initially afraid of all the things I heard that can happen during labor and birth! I dreaded giving birth, and had no clue how I would cope when the time came for my own experience! However, my realization of my lack of knowledge, and the resulting fear of what I did not know, inspired me to become as knowledgeable and aware of all the issues surrounding labor and birth as I could. Learning as much as I felt I needed to about birth, and about how to make the choices that were right for me regardless of what could happen during my birth, was instrumental in helping me face my own births without fear of the unknown.
Since both my daughter and 1st son were born, I continued to be passionate about almost anything related to pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and parenthood beyond birth! I became a birth doula in 2015 because I desired to support other women (and their families) on their own journeys. Since becoming a doula, in 2016 I started a new journey to becoming a certified breastfeeding counselor. However, shortly after starting my studies for that, I went on my own maternity leave to give birth to my 3rd child, my 2nd son. Now (finally!), as of the beginning of 2018, I have resumed those studies and am excited to add to my overall 'birth' services, so that as an experienced mother in breastfeeding myself and with extra training, I can also provide personal, professional, and practical breastfeeding support to mothers in Saskatoon and surrounding area who are experiencing breastfeeding challenges they would like to overcome. |
