More than a year and a half after moving across Saskatchewan from Southeast Saskatchewan to the Saskatoon, SK area (Warman currently, to be exact), I have finally done it - I have changed my phone number to be local to Saskatoon, Warman, Osler, and the surrounding local calling areas. I know that changing one's cell phone number isn't always necessary in this day and age of most people having decent long distance calling plans, and I seriously considered leaving my phone number alone long-term, but recently I had someone try to contact me who did not have such a calling plan and I was finally faced with the reality that it would simply be easier and less confusing if I no longer carried a phone number that lives in a town on the other end of Saskatchewan.
Feel free to give me a call at my new phone number 639-318-1711. If you are in the Saskatoon area, there'll be no long distance charges for you :)
I am currently still working on my Breastfeeding Counselor certification. During my training, for a limited time, I am offering up to 5 hours of combined support free of charge to any woman contacting me looking for breastfeeding support. This could include any of the services listed on my breastfeeding services page.
Reading this, you might be asking yourself, "Why is Criston offering breastfeeding counselor consultation services before she is able to call herself a certified breastfeeding counselor?" and that would be a good question! If you'd like to know my answer to that question, then read on!
Hello again! It has been a while since I have been active on this website and blog, mainly because I had taken an extended maternity leave starting in 2016, AND moved twice since that maternity leave started as well!
Now, though, I'm excited to announce that we have finally landed in a new location where we will be putting down some roots! We now live in Osler, Saskatchewan, only 15 minutes from Saskatoon. Now that we are in a new location I thought I would announce that my maternity leave is wrapping up and I am accepting on call birth clients again, now for Saskatoon and the surrounding area due as early as March 2018!
I am still on my way to becoming a certified lactation counselor to provide that extra level of support to clients new to breastfeeding or with specific breastfeeding challenges, but until then, I am still planning to offer my other prenatal, birth, postpartum, and even pre-conception services!
Hi! Welcome here!
If you are new here, I'm Criston, a certified professional birth doula and breastfeeding counselor in training in Southeast Saskatchewan...and if you read my latest blog post before this one, you'll see that I'm actually on maternity leave and on the verge of moving out of Southeast Saskatchewan with my family in the next couple weeks!
(For now we're staying in Saskatchewan, but because of the move and because I'm currently on my own maternity leave after having a baby in October, I'm actually taking a break from accepting birth doula clients at this time and I'm going to continue my breastfeeding counselor training within the next few months after a break from that too!)
While I've been on maternity leave a thought came to me, that I'd REALLY love to start featuring Saskatchewan birth stories on this blog, as I know I loved listening to and reading birth stories during my own pregnancy, and I know I'm not the only woman who has found them helpful! I see a lack of Saskatchewan-based birth stories to be found on the internet, and while place of birth doesn't necessarily mean a woman will have any particular type of birth experience (or greater or lesser satisfaction in her birth experience), I do believe that women appreciate hearing at least some stories from others who live nearby.
I figured that there's no time like the present to start accepting submissions to begin this Saskatchewan Birth Stories project, so here I am today to invite any women who have given birth in Saskatchewan (Canada) to send me your birth stories!
